FALL RIVER (CBS) — A Fall River man is facing charges that include a civil rights violation for allegedly assaulting an 82-year-old supporter of President Donald Trump. The victim, Air Force veteran Charles Chase, told police he was holding a pro-Trump sign Tuesday when he was violently attacked.

“The guy when he came at me, I have never seen a horror story that the face was so filled with hate and anger as his was,” Chase said. “I was just frozen.”

Fall River police said that 27-year-old Aidan Courtright got out of his car approached Chase at the rotary of North Main Street and Airport Road, screaming “Give me the f—ing sign!”

“Courtright then forcefully ripped the sign out of the victim’s hands, ripped it in half, and threw it on the ground,” police said. “Courtright then went after the victim, grabbing him by his shirt, knocking his hat off, and throwing him violently to the ground.”

Authorities said Courtright kicked the man “with leather pointed shoes,” while he was on the ground, and then drove away. Chase was taken to a hospital to be treated for bruising.

“I didn’t know that he had lifted me up, but he apparently lifted me up and flung me down on my back on the ground,” Chase said.

Police said two independent witnesses saw the attack and corroborated Chase’s story.

“The victim stated that he believed that he was targeted and attacked because of his political beliefs and the “Trump” hat that he was wearing,” police said.

Police were able to contact Courtright and he turned himself in to the police station. He’s facing charges of civil rights violation with injury, assault and battery on a person over 60, vandalism of personal property and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Aidan here thinks he is a tough guy. Do you think he would have done this with anyone but a senior citizen? Typical leftist clown, a rebel without a clue or a spine.

  2. Good job by the parents. You must be so proud! Does he live in your basement?

  3. Barry Doucette says:

This guy is a coward. Lucky he didn’t try this on anyone other than an old man. A woman or man would have beat this guy into the dirt. We should find out where this idiot lives and fix him so he can’t attack old men and children anymore. We know he won”t attack anyone who might kick his butt. I wish I lived closer.

Its amazing how CRAZY they are. I hope this guy has some pretty big grandsons to pay him a visit

He felt threatened by an 82 year old man! Throw the book at him!

  6. TomKat Books says:

I hope Chase sues the pants off Aidan Courtright.

And win what in the lawsuit? (his liberal college student debt, his Participation trophies?) He is too old for his parents to be sued even though he still lives in his mommy’s basement.

  7. Grumpy Old Man says:

Seems like a green light to peacefully loot his residence.

I think it’s fair to say that this little coward will regret what he did for quite a long time. Guess he isn’t aware of just how many veterans and even some non-veterans will do if they find out where he is at night unless his mother hides him in the basement.

This sort of behaviour is completely unacceptable. There was another incident in which a man drove a car into a campaign tent, these kind of people are responsible for the increasing hate in the society and the only way to deal with them is to make a public example,so that no one in the future dares to hit an innocent old man(who by the way in this video was extremely sweet and was almost crying ).

According to his attorney, as reported in The Herald News, Aidan is a trained de-escalation expert at Pembroke Hospital. Really. He needs to be a patient there, not staff.

    1. Chris Foley says:

I will wait to see if he is fired from his job. Holding breath.

Leave it to Fall River, a hot bed of tolerance.

  12. John Ricci says:

Sure, he’s all tough with an 82-year old. Let him try that with a current military veteran and see how far he gets. He better serve some time for an unprovoked assault like this.

Where is the follow up CBS? I think the court date for the accused was today? Don’t we owe the process some follow through? Isn’t a verdict and seeking the truth news?
