Boston Police Officer Released From Hospital After Battling Coronavirus
BOSTON (CBS) – A Boston Police officer was released from the hospital Friday after a life-threatening battle with coronavirus.
Cheers were heard outside Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital for Officer Omar Borges. His family went in for the long-awaited greeting
"It feels like Christmas, News Year's. All the holidays put together," his older sister Nilsa Borges-Cruz said.
His brothers in blue including, Police Commissioner William Gross, congratulated the officer with 15 years on the force on winning his toughest fight.
"We were really worried when he came in he was really sick when he came in," said Molly Hayes, Director of the Medical ICU at Beth Israel.
Borges, who is 47 years old, spent more than a month at Beth Israel hospital battling Covid-19.
"It gives us all hope," said Hayes.
Boston police say 78 of their officers have come down with Covid-19.
