Police Respond To Boston Common After Shooting Sends 1 To Hospital

BOSTON (CBS) -- Police responded to the Boston Common after a shooting Tuesday afternoon sent one person to the hospital.

Boston police said a person was shot in the leg in the area of 37 Beacon Street. Their injuries were not life-threatening and they were taken to a local hospital.

SkyEye spotted police cruisers on the Common around the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

"We have officers canvassing the neighborhood, the Common looking for evidence," said Boston Police Commissioner William Gross.

So far there have been no arrests. Police are investigating the incident.

"I was here in the dog park, heard two shots ring out, saw five people run down the hill and just all flank out in different directions," one woman told WBZ-TV.

Gross explained, "Although we located the victim at Beacon and Joyce Street, we located the crime scene here near the memorial. So we're working from that. We're looking for evidence all over the Boston Common."

"This is a time where we pull together as Boston. As the mayor stated several times, we should be working together and anyone that would commit these acts of violence needs to be locked up," Gross said.
