Man Dies After Police Officer-Involved Shooting In Manchester, NH

MANCHESTER (CBS) -- A 62-year-old man is dead after a police officer-involved shooting in New Hampshire Sunday night. Carl Manning, of Manchester, was pronounced dead after being "shot during a confrontation with the police," the New Hampshire Attorney General said.

Manchester Police named Manning a person of interest in connection with a suspicious fire early Sunday. Around 5:50 p.m. officers responded to Lake Shore Road for a report of a truck matching the description of Manning's vehicle.

"As the Manchester Police approached Mr. Manning's truck, they encountered Mr. Manning inside the truck, who appeared to be armed," said the A.G. He was shot a short time later.

No officers were injured during the shooting.

According to Manchester Police, around 3 a.m. a fire engulfed a home on Dearborn Street. Neighbors told police they heard an explosion.

"No one was home at the time of the fire, however a doorbell camera did capture the scene and showed an unknown person walking away from the fire. The image was too dark to determine who it may be," a statement from police said.

After further investigation police said Manning, who is known to the homeowner, was a person of interest.

Unrelated to the fire, police said Manning had active arrests warrants against him for violation of a protective order and stalking in 2019.
