Stop & Shop Employee Hit And Killed In North Reading While Walking To Work

NORTH READING (CBS) – A Stop & Shop employee was hit and killed in North Reading Thursday morning while walking to work.

It happened on Main Street around 6:30 a.m. She was identified as Marianne Quam, 70, of North Reading.

The driver of the SUV involved remained on scene and is cooperating with police. No charges have been filed yet.

In a statement, Stop & Shop confirmed that the victim was a store employee on their way to work.

We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our dedicated associates passed away in a tragic incident as she was walking to work at our store in North Reading this morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our associate's family and to the store team. Our employee assistance team is at the store to help counsel and support our associates, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement in their investigation.

Main Street was closed between North Street and Route 125 after the crash.
