MBTA To Reduce Train, Bus Service To Slow Coronavirus Spread
BOSTON (CBS) – The MBTA is going to start reducing service on trains and buses beginning Tuesday to help slow down the spread of coronavirus.
Bus and subway lines will be switching to Saturday schedules while service on all commuter lines will be cut back. Ferry rides have been shut down for now. You can find all of the changes on mbta.com/coronavirus.
"These changes are being made based on guidance from public health professionals and have been developed according to several criteria that seek to protect the health and safety of MBTA employees and customers, as well as recent reductions in ridership," the MBTA said in a statement Monday afternoon.
"Acknowledging guidance that recommends people avoid large crowds, the MBTA will operate at levels that support social distancing."
The MBTA said they will continue monitoring crowd sizes on trains and buses and make service adjustments if necessary.
"This means if the T experiences an increase in ridership, capacity will be added as necessary."
