Oldest Woman In New England Celebrates 109th Birthday

WELLESLEY (CBS) -- Herlda Senhouse shows no sign of slowing down. The Wellesley woman celebrated her 109th birthday Friday surrounded by friends and family.

She remains officially the oldest woman in New England, a title she's held for the last three years.

She grew up in West Virginia and Massachusetts and graduated from Woburn High School.

Family, friends, and city officials were all on hand for the special celebration, including Herlda's best friend Margaret Robinson.

"She is very optimistic, hardly any negative talk, we've been friends for 50 years," Robinson said. "She's gentle, she doesn't criticize. Only when needed."

"I'm just happy to see all my friends and family," Senhouse said.

In the next year, Senhouse said she hopes to meet actor and comedian Tyler Perry and the Obamas.
