9 Hurt After Fire Trucks, Pick Up Truck Collide In Manchester NH

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) -- Nine people were hurt after two fire trucks and a pickup truck collided in New Hampshire on Friday. Eight firefighters and another person were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The fire trucks were responding to a call but it is unclear what caused the crash, which occurred around 12:45 p.m. near Maple and Bridge Streets. A traffic light was also knocked down as a result.

Manchester Fire Chief Dan Goonan said the crash could have been a lot worse. "Those are very big vehicles, very heavy vehicles. When they impact they cause a lot of damage," Goonan said. "Those guys got tossed around."

Everyone who was taken to the hospital was released later Friday afternoon.

Several surrounding streets were closed while police responded to the crash.

Goonan said the department was busy Friday. Less than an hour after the fire trucks collided, an oil truck crashed into a home and another building fire was reported.

The cause of the crash is being investigated.
