Boston Parking Garage Plans Changes After Christmas Day Deaths

BOSTON (AP) — The owners of a Boston parking garage are planning to install signage and make modifications after a mother killed her two young children and then herself at the facility on Christmas Day.

Northeastern University, which owns the Renaissance Park garage, said the changes will include signs to deter suicide attempts.

The university also said it would make unspecified "structural modifications" to the nine-story garage.

"Following Wednesday's tragedy, the university has indefinitely blocked both pedestrian and vehicular access to the top two floors of the Renaissance Park garage," Northeastern officials wrote in a statement.

The university will also bolster 24-hour security staffing at the facility and install additional surveillance cameras, the statement said.

The mother was identified by authorities as Erin Pascal, 40, of the city's West Roxbury neighborhood. The children were Allison, 4 , and Andrew, 15 months, according to a statement from Suffolk District Attorney Rachael Rollins.

The garage is the site of two previous suicides this year.

Pascal was a Brown University graduate who had worked as a reporter for The Providence Journal and more recently worked in the biotech industry in Massachusetts.
