Rep. Lori Trahan Says She Used Money From Joint Account To Fund Campaign

NORTH ANDOVER (AP) — U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan says she used $300,000 deposited by her husband into a joint account to help finance the final days of her 2018 campaign for Congress.

The Massachusetts Democrat while acknowledging "several errors" said Wednesday she "didn't give much thought to what bank account to use," because per a prenuptial agreement her and her husband's accounts were fluid.

Trahan says her husband, Dave, deposited $300,000 into their joint checking account, and that money was then transferred to her campaign account.

There have been complaints filed against Trahan with the Federal Elections Commission claiming that she illegally funneled money from a spouse's account.

Trahan's attorney says the couple merged their finances long before the campaign, and his client has "an equal right to manage and dispose of their marital property."
