Dedham Auto Shop Finds Groundhog While Checking Car Engine

DEDHAM (CBS) – Workers at a Dedham auto shop found an unlikely diagnosis for a car brought in due to a check engine light. When workers popped the hood, they found a groundhog tucked away in a vehicle's engine compartment.

"Basically I just saw a big-sized animal. We didn't know what it was because it was kind of tucked in. In the beginning, I thought it was dead," Joe Hanna of Audy Auto Center said. "And then we looked and it was moving, and that's when we decided not to touch it."

"My first guess was a bunny rabbit, just the way its nose and whiskers were," said car owner Lizzy Corsetti. "He was stuck in there but they started pulling parts out, they took [out] the air filter to kind of give him more room."

Then an animal control officer was able to free the animal and send it on its way, police said.

"This condition might not be in the owner's manual," police wrote in a Facebook post.
