Lifeguards Revive 8-Year-Old Boy Who 'Nearly Drowned' In Newton Pool

NEWTON (CBS) -- Lifeguards revived an 8-year-old boy who was pulled from a pool in Newton on Tuesday afternoon.

The child was swimming at the Fessenden School, which is home to a summer camp.

Firefighters said he "nearly drowned" but lifeguards were able to perform CPR.

Police and paramedics arrived and brought the boy to Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where he was fully conscious and alert.

"The lifeguards and aquatics staff, nurses, and all staff responded swiftly and appropriately," camp director Rusty Paine said in a statement. "The parents of the child were contacted. They are with their child now who is resting comfortably."
