Attleboro Man Wanted For 'Viciously' Attacking Disabled Person, Armed Robbery

ATTLEBORO (CBS) -- Attleboro Police have released photos of a man wanted in connection with an assault of a disabled person. Cory Silva, 29, of Attleboro, "viciously assaulted and robbed a disabled individual" outside a Pine Street business on April 24, according to police.

The attack resulted in "egregious bodily injury to the victim," police said.

Video released Tuesday shows the victim attacked by two men after exiting Brother's Liquors. The 50-year-old victim is knocked to the ground and beaten.

Ironically the victim exchanged handshakes and small talk with the suspects going into the place amid no signs of trouble. "As far as I recollect they were asking for a cigarette or a dollar or something stupid like that," the victim told WBZ.

But as he exits and looks to climb into a relative's car, things turn ugly.

"It hurts your ego, I'm supposed to be a man," he said.

Surveillance video shows the suspects jump on him with a flurry of punches, knocking him to the ground as the frightened relative drives off.

"The next thing I know I'm on the ground defending for my life," he said.

The assailants kicked and punched him, adding a concussion and broken cheekbone to a man already brain damaged from a childhood illness and later accident.

"I really don't remember what was said because I was getting hit so hard," he said.

The victim, who does not want to be publicly identified, says his attackers stole $30 and snatched a chain from his neck even as he pleaded for its return.

"If you give me back my chain, I'll forget about the whole thing, because my grandmother gave me that chain," the victim recalled. "He brandished a knife and said 'How bad do you want it?'"

Police identified the attackers as Silva and 41-year-old Shawn Farmer, who is already in custody.

"If they can do that to me, they can do that to pretty much anyone so I want them to pay for it," he said.

The beating only stopped when an SUV pulled up and the driver deliberately shined their headlights on the fracas.

The victim will get that chain back. Police recovered it from a pawn shop just across the state line in Pawtucket.

A 20-year-old woman was also at the scene. Her possible role in the attack is under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 508-222-1212.
