Dorchester Shooting Victim Identified As Assistant Coach At UMass Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The search is on for the gunman who shot and killed a man along Greenwood Street in Dorchester. Boston Police said shots rang out at around 3 this morning.

The victim has been identified as Kendric Price, who was an assistant men's basketball coach at UMass Boston.

"The Boston Police Department is actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident," police said.

Price was pronounced dead at the scene.

Some neighbors here are now fearing for their safety, telling WBZ off-camera that they heard as many as 15 gunshots go off early this morning before seeing a large crowd disperse from Greenwood Street.

A man who recently moved from Quincy to Dorchester - just steps from where the victim was shot to death - said he's so frightened, he's now considering another move. "Shootings that can happen any time of day, that is scary. Coming home at 7 o'clock in the morning and finding somebody got killed across the street from me is kind of concerning."

Price played Division I basketball at the University of Michigan, graduating in 2008. In 2012, he founded the Big Business Network, Inc., which teaches boys in fourth through eighth grades about business and investing.

"Kendric was a great young coach who worked with our men's basketball program. We are all saddened by the tragic news of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with Kendric's family," said a statement from UMass Boston.
