Warren Calls Scott Brown 'Cute' At Town Hall In Roxbury

BOSTON (CBS/AP) — U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren called her former rival, ex-U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, "cute" at a town hall in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood.

Warren made the remark while discussing how she got into politics and ultimately faced - and beat - her Republican opponent, Brown, to win the Massachusetts Senate seat in 2012.

"There comes a time when you're called, and the fact that that other guy had a 65 percent approval rating, $10 million in the bank, was cute. Damn!" Warren told the crowd.

The event was the Democrat's 37th meeting with constituents using the town hall format since President Donald Trump took office.

Warren, a frequent critic of Trump, is running for re-election in November against Republican state Rep. Geoff Diehl, who served as co-chairman of Trump's 2016 campaign in Massachusetts.

Diehl on Saturday called Warren's "cute" remark about Brown "inappropriate."

"I think campaigns for U.S. Senate should be about serious policy and what's good for Massachusetts," Diehl said while campaigning in Brockton. "I think talking about superficial things like looks is, in some cases, pretty inappropriate. In fact, I'm not sure it would be acceptable at all for me to make a comment about an opponent and their looks, so hopefully she maybe has second thoughts about that statement and makes an apology."

Warren says she'll decide after the Nov. 6 midterm elections whether to take on Trump in 2020.
