Woman Dies After Being Pinned Under Car In Market Basket Parking Lot

WESTFORD (CBS) - The Middlesex District Attorney's office is investigating the death of a woman who was run over and pinned by her own vehicle in a Market Basket parking lot in Westford.

Investigators say another driver, while parking, struck her vehicle and it rolled over the victim as she put groceries away.

"There was a woman under the car and I could see her legs moving," said witness Mary Chandler. "I thought that was good but the car was over her."

Chandler says cars were honking trying to get the driver's attention. It apparently caused a fender bender between two other cars. Witnesses say paramedics were still performing CPR as the woman in her 50's was taken away in an ambulance.

First responders used an airbag-type device to lift the vehicle. State police also used a drone to take aerial photographs. According to investigators, the driver remained at the scene.

Shoppers say the parking lot is often crowded and difficult to maneuver. "It's always busy and crazy and people often don't look," said Cindy North.
