Suspect Arrested In Murder Of Elderly Needham Woman

NEEDHAM (CBS) – A suspect has been arrested in the murder of an 81-year-old woman in Needham. The suspect, who has not been identified, will be arraigned Friday morning.

Laura Shifrina was found dead in her elderly housing apartment on Linden Street in Needham on May 31. The Russian native had suffered what Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey called "sharp trauma."

Friends who loved Shifrina are breathing a sigh of relief.

"I am sorry Massachusetts law does not allow death penalty," said Aleksandr Yufa. "It's horrible and unspeakable. I hope American justice will do the best job for punishment."

Her stolen red Ford was later recovered with a Boston parking ticket on the window. Investigators have not named the suspect, nor have they released any information about a motive.

The suspect's arraignment is scheduled for Friday morning in Dedham District Court.
