Massachusetts Mistakenly Takes Away Tax Refunds From Thousands

BOSTON (CBS) – The Massachusetts Department of Revenue is saying sorry after giving thousands of residents their tax refunds before taking them back.

The tax agency says about 40,000 people had refunds issued to their bank accounts, only to have that money removed.

Those people affected should have their refunds back by Friday, the department says.

The mix-up is reportedly due to a "processing issue."

"The Department of Revenue apologizes for any inconvenience to taxpayers," a statement read.
