Chelsea High School Closed 2 Days Because Of Fly Infestation

CHELSEA (CBS) – Chelsea High School will be closed for the rest of this week because of a fly infestation.

The insect problem was reported in the kitchen of the school last Monday.

A drain cleaning contractor could not find the source of the problem, so walls were opened up to investigate where the flies were coming in.

"Unfortunately, this invasive but necessary work to get to the source of the infiltration of flies, created more access points for flies to enter the building," Chelsea Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mary M. Bourque said in a statement.

The high school will be closed Thursday, December 15 and Friday, December 16 so crews can continue to inspect behind walls and find where the flies are entering the building.

Bourque says she will keep parents, students and staff informed of their progress.
