BOSTON (CBS) – Rob Gronkowski’s season is officially over.

The Patriots tight end will miss the remainder of the season after being placed on injured reserve, Field Yates of ESPN reported.

Gronkowski underwent surgery Friday on his back, the third time he’s had a similar procedure in his career.

Initially, there were reports that Gronkowski could return if the Patriots reached the Super Bowl. But the team later said they did not expect him to play again this year.
