Dentist Collects Over 2,500 Pounds Of Halloween Candy For Troops

LEXINGTON (CBS) – More than 2,500 pounds of Halloween candy is headed for American soldiers overseas thanks to a local dentist and some generous trick-or-treaters.

Dr. Fawn Rosenberg and her staff at Lexington Smile Studio have been running the "Cash For Candy, Sweets For Our Troops" drive for 15 years, and say 2016 was the most successful effort yet.

Children who bring their candy to her Waltham Street office are paid $1 per pound and also get a flashing toothbrush.

"We know from past experience that these small reminders of home mean a lot to those that are serving abroad," Rosenberg said in a statement.

The candy will be sent to troops around the world sometime over the holidays, along with toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss.
