Needham Company Allows Workers To Shop On Cyber Monday

BOSTON (CBS) - Were you one of the millions of Americans trying to buy gifts online Monday "while" you were at work? If so, you're not alone.

According to The Society For Human Resource Management, 49 percent of employees in North America said they typically shop from work on Cyber Monday.

Research from CareerBuilder shows that 42 percent of employees will shop using their smartphone or tablet at work.

So why shouldn't bosses just give in and allow their workers to participate in the most lucrative online shopping day in history? Some employers are.

At Mittcom, an advertising agency in Needham, COO Scott Bernstein told WBZ letting his workers shop via the web Monday is good for morale.

"We know they're going to shop, as long as they get their work done we don't mind at all that they shop online," said Bernstein.

We found several Mittcom workers in their cubicles or office taking advantage of the offer.

Deborah Delany told us it's very convenient. "I hate going to malls," she said.

Another worker, Jonathan Amerikaner, said "I do 90 percent of my shopping online."

Shoppers are expected to spend a record $91.6 billion online today.
