MATTAPAN (CBS) — Police are investigating the death of a woman in an apartment with three children inside.

Police say a woman in her mid-20s or 30s is dead Saturday night. Her cause of death is currently unknown, but there were three children in her Bismark Street apartment when she died, police say.

Around 4 p.m. on Saturday, police responded what initially was thought to be a home invasion. It turned out the victim’s family had forced their way into the woman’s apartment to check on her, finding her dead.

“I’m hoping it’s not trauma,” Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said. “It’s unfortunate. The children have been taken to the hospital and we’re just waiting to further examine the body. Right now it’s a death investigation.”

The three children in the apartment were taken to the hospital and are OK, police say.

Police don’t expect foul play in the woman’s death. They are investigating all possibilities, including medical conditions. The victim’s identity is not being released at this time.
