Sex Offender Sent Back To Prison For Visiting Quincy Library

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — A convicted sex offender who was extradited to Rhode Island from Massachusetts to face a probation violation charge has been sentenced to serve another year in prison.

Richard Gardner acknowledged violating his probation by recently visiting a library in Quincy, Massachusetts. He was sentenced Friday in Kent County Superior Court in Warwick.

Gardner was released from prison Oct. 3. The 49-year-old was convicted of multiple child rapes in the 1980s and early 1990s in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Gardner is prohibited from loitering near children or places frequented by children.

Quincy police also accused Gardner of violating a city ordinance that prohibits sex offenders from entering libraries without prior permission.
