Father Of Marlboro Baby Admits To Taking Substance, Blacking Out Before Baby's Death

MARLBORO (CBS) -- The father whose baby died in a Harrison Place home on Thursday said he and the baby's mother had taken a substance and blacked out before the infant died, The Boston Globe reports.

Emergency crews responded to 43 Harrison Place on Thursday, where a 19-year-old mother and 23-year-old father were unresponsive. The baby was later pronounced dead. Firefighters confirmed they used Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal drug, on the two adults, and now the Boston Globe reports the father admitted to taking a substance.

Sergei Albert told the Globe he remembers taking a substance with his girlfriend before blacking out. He said he had made a mistake, according to the Globe, and didn't want to be labeled a baby murderer.

A neighbor who witnessed emergency crews arriving at the home on Thursday described the scene. An older woman came out of the home carrying a bundle, the neighbor said.

"She kept saying, 'My baby. My baby. I don't know what happened.' And the ambulance took the baby," Lisa Sowden said.

Crews then went inside and took a woman and man out of the home.

"He was walking out and the older woman walked up to him and said, 'What did you do to my daughter? What did you do to my daughter?'" Sowden said. "He wasn't responding. He was just walking with the officer. And the female was sitting just kind of with her head down."

The mother's cousin told WBZ-TV the incident must have been drug related, but said he didn't know the couple to use drugs. Fire officials said they had reason to believe the pair had used opioids, but the Middlesex District Attorney's office has not said whether drugs were at play.
