Vandals Target Construction Equipment In Cohasset

COHASSET (CBS) - A South Shore contractor says he's been hit by vandals five times. At this point, he's convinced he's a target and his equipment is paying the price.

Contractor Andrew Spath took WBZ on a tour of his job site in Cohasset, a site now basically shut down because of a rash of vandalism, destruction of his big construction rigs.

"Quite a bit of money yeah in excess of 40 to 50 thousand dollars in damage," Spath said. "As you can see these are the holes, the left side this is the radiator."

At least five pieces of heavy equipment were targeted. Holes punched in radiators; hydraulic lines damaged producing fluid leaks, leaving the equipment out of commission.

"This is big stuff," Spath said. "This is someone that knew what they were doing. It wasn't kids throwing rocks at glass. It was specifically targeted. The vandals were inside the compartments of the machines going after the specific items."

This is obviously a tough time for Andrew, but it's even more stressful because his wife is just about to have a baby.

Spath said he's not sure why he would be targeted but did say he's been victimized like this before. Police have some leads.

"We are receiving anonymous tips," said Cohasset Police Sgt. Michael Lopes. "We're following up on those tips. There does seem to be some history between this company, Site Pro, and a few other companies so we're looking into those."

Police have taken fingerprints and are seeking surveillance video from nearby businesses. In the meantime, at the Cohasset site, Andrew is out of business.
