Man Charged With Posing As FBI Agent In Attempt To Enter Arlington Home

ARLINGTON (CBS) - Arlington Police say 23-year-old Gannon LeBlanc was impersonating an FBI agent when he inexplicably knocked at a home on Lee Terrace, showed the residents an FBI wanted poster and then asked to use the bathroom.

Police say the residents refused to let him in and called 911. In addition to a loaded, unlicensed handgun police say he was carrying an illegal stun gun, and in a backpack they say they found gloves, knives, twist ties, and an FBI hat.

"The guy had all the equipment of a modern day police officer," said Arlington police Chief Frederick Ryan.

When LeBlanc was turned away at the door police say they caught up with him at a nearby bus stop. According to prosecutors LeBlanc works at Lincoln Laboratories in Lexington with one of the residents of the home and lives in Nashua, NH, and they are trying to determine a motive for targeting the home.

Chief Ryan says LeBlanc knew the victim but she did not know him. "He provided some details about his commute but was unable to explain why he happened to be at that location in Arlington," said a prosecutor as LeBlanc was arraigned in Cambridge District Court.

His defense attorney claims the items are used for camping saying LeBlanc is into the outdoors, and he was lost in the neighborhood trying to get home.

Police are concerned it's an incident that could have turned violent, but neighbor Joe LaRoche believes it's someone who needs help. "I think it's a sad person who's trying to connect and doesn't know how to do that," he said.

Prosecutors say LeBlanc also works for the federal credit union at MIT and had the names of four clients on post-it notes along with personal information. He's being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.
