Mitt Romney Sends 'Best Wishes' To President-Elect Donald Trump

BOSTON (CBS) – Mitt Romney, a critic of Donald Trump who came up short in his own campaign for president, is wishing Trump well after his surprise victory.

"Best wishes for our duly elected president: May his victory speech be his guide and preserving the Republic his aim," Romney tweeted Wednesday morning.

Romney, the former Republican governor and 2012 GOP nominee, did not attend Trump's nominating convention and called Trump a "phony" back in March.

Trump has similarly bashed Romney as "a stiff" who "didn't know what he was doing."
