BOSTON (CBS) — With just two days to go until Election Day, WBZ political analyst Jon Keller sat down with WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Joe Mathieu to discuss the last stretch of the 2016 presidential campaign.
Mathieu said the race was looking close, but said Donald Trump still looked to have a more difficult shot at reaching the 270 delegates required to win.READ MORE: Child Grazed By Bullet On Talbot Ave. In Dorchester
“There are a lot of questions about how close this race really is, when we see the average of national polls–which don’t tell us a lot right now, but it’s hard to ignore them–within a couple of percentage points,” said Mathieu. “When you look at the electoral math, though, it does look like a much heavier lift for Donald Trump to get to 270.”
Mathieu said he thinks the deciding factors will be early in the night, when states like Florida post election results.
“If Trump loses Florida, boy, I don’t know how he wins the whole thing,” said Mathieu.READ MORE: Massachusetts Reports 1,999 New COVID-19 Cases, 16 Additional Deaths
Jon brought up the fact that a significant portion of the electorate supports Trump on issues related to trade–but said that people might not support him on trade if they knew what would happen if jobs were brought back from abroad.
“There isn’t a lot of truth being told about global trade,” Mathieu said. “If we brought all the jobs back from China and Mexico as Donald Trump has suggested, your trip to Wal-Mart is going to look really different, and things are going to cost many multiples more than they do now.”
Keller and Mathieu also discussed the ballot questions voters will see on Tuesday, and criticism of the media’s coverage of the 2016 presidential election.
