Police Search For Man Who Allegedly Struck, Dragged Officer With Van

BILLERICA (CBS) – Police in Billerica are searching for a man wanted for an assault on an officer and alleged drug use.

Eric Oblenis, 28 of Billerica, is wanted for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after he allegedly struck and dragged an officer with a van.

On Friday night, officers approached a van in the parking lot of a Rite Aid located at 467 Boston Rd. and observed the driver injecting a substance into his arm. Police say when the driver, believed to be Oblenis, saw the officer, he allegedly threw the needle on the floor and accelerated in reverse, striking the officer.

The officer was dragged for approximately 15 feet. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Oblenis is a white male with a slender build and was last seen wearing a flat brim baseball hat and a red sweatshirt.

Police are looking for a 1999 green Dodge Ram van with Rhode Island license plate IY888.
