Dion Lewis Practices With Patriots For First Time Of 2016 Season

BOSTON (CBS) -- Dion Lewis took an important step in his road to recovery on Thursday, as he made his practice debut of the 2016 season.

Lewis tore his ACL last November, underwent surgery and participated in offseason workouts. But he suffered a setback which required a second surgery in August, leading to him starting the season on the physically unable to perform list.

He became eligible to return to practice last week but didn't debut until Thursday. Now, the Patriots have a three-week window to activate him.

After traveling to Buffalo this weekend, the Patriots will take their bye week, followed by a home date against Seattle and then a trip so San Francisco.

Lewis, 26, averaged 4.8 yards per carry and 10.8 yards per reception last year for the Patriots.
