Rangers Beat Bruins 5-2

NEW YORK -- Brandon Pirri scored two of the New York Rangers' five consecutive goals that erased a two-goal deficit in a 5-2 thumping on the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

Centers David Pastrnak and Austin Czarnik staked Boston to an early lead but the Rangers struck for five goals over a 14-minute span across the second and third periods. Along with Pirri's two goals, left wingers Rick Nash and Jimmy Vesey and center Kevin Hayes also scored for the Rangers.

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist stopped 27 shots to earn the win.

Bruins goaltender Zane McIntyre crumbled after a solid start, allowing five goals on 31 shots.

Pirri and Vesey scored 33 seconds apart early in the third period to put the game away.

Goals by Pastrnak and Czarnik put the Bruins ahead 2-0 after one period.

Ten seconds into the game, Pastrnak he took a pass behind the defense from left winger Brad Marchand, cut across the front of the net and tucked a shot between the legs of Lundqvist to put the Bruins on top 1-0.

Czarnik made it 2-0 with his first NHL goal with 5:16 left in the period. He took a wrist shot from just inside the blue line, and the puck appeared to change direction before bouncing off Lundqvist and trickling into the net.

The Rangers responded with three goals in the second period, two of which came on the power play.

Nash cut the lead in half with a power-play goal at 9:16. McIntyre made a terrific save on the doorstep against Nash, but Nash was able to collect the rebound and chip it over the goalie for his third of the season.

McIntyre allowed a soft goal with 2:25 remaining when Hayes banked the puck off the goaltender's backside and into the net to tie the score at 2.

Pirri's power-play goal with 35.4 seconds remaining came after the Bruins' fourth minor penalty of the period. Pirri ripped a shot from the right faceoff circle after a great pass from J.T. Miller that zipped past McIntyre's glove to give the Rangers a 3-2 advantage.
