Body Recovered From Merrimack River Believed To Be Missing NH Teen

NASHUA, N.H. (CBS) – Police have recovered the body of a male believed to be a teenager who may have been swept into a New Hampshire storm drain during a heavy rain storm Friday night.

The family of 16-year-old Nashua resident Jacob Goulet reported him missing early Saturday morning after he left a friend's house to walk home and did not arrive.

A Massachusetts State Police helicopter found a body in the Merrimack River in nearby Tyngsboro. According to Nashua Police, the clothing found on the body matches what Goulet was wearing when he went missing.  Nashua Police say they are waiting on the Medical Examiner to confirm a positive identification.

Police found some of Goulet's personal items on the ground near a large storm drain on Main Street and surveillance video showed him in the area.

According to the Nashua Fire Department, the pressure from the large volume of water had forced the vault cover open.

"We're looking into how it may have come off, whether it was water or air or some other cause, that's not clear now but it's something we're looking into," said Nashua Mayor James Donchess.

Friends of the teen gathered at the storm drain on Sunday to leave flowers in the area where he was last seen.

"It's just unreal, I can't even imagine it, like, it doesn't seem real to me that something like this could happen that I could be making jokes with him at second block at school and a day later he turns up missing," said Goulet's classmate Nicholas Brown.
