Dedham High School Students Receive Anonymous Clown Text Messages

DEDHAM (CBS) – Students at Dedham High School have received anonymous text messages about clowns in recent days.

Dedham Superintendent of Schools Michael Welch said students have been receiving text messages about clowns that "tend to be vague, generic, and from an unknown number or anonymous source."

Similar messages have also been reported around the country.

Welch encouraged parents to monitor their children's media activity and report anything out of the ordinary.

"Please also discuss the seriousness of initiating or forwarding any sort of threatening message," Welch told parents. "While our conversations with police do not indicate any credible aspects to these initial posts, we will pursue and investigate any threat seriously and will work with students to provide perspective on this sequence."

The school reported the text messages to Dedham Police, and school officials are "monitoring the issue in our schools."

Reported clown sightings have led to police response at several schools in Massachusetts.
