'You've Got The Wrong Lester': Pitcher Jon Lester Mistaken For Lester Holt On Twitter During Debate

NEW YORK (CBS) – Jon Lester did not moderate the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

But that didn't stop a handful of people on Twitter from confusing the former Red Sox pitcher for NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, who was moderating the debate last week.

Lester spent the morning after the debate helpfully correcting Twitter users who had mistakenly tweeted at him.

One confused Trump supporter even suggested that the Chicago Cubs ace might play a role in a potential Hillary Clinton administration.

We're not sure which way Lester leans, politically. He was lauded by former President George W. Bush for bravely battling cancer when the Red Sox visited the White House after winning the 2007 World Series.

"All of America, whether you're a Red Sox fan or not, was moved by the Jon Lester story. Jon had a decisive victory over cancer, and in the World Series," Bush said. "And it was an inspiration to a lot of folks who were looking at this good man to determine whether they, themselves, could overcome adversity."
