BOSTON (CBS) — It’s part of her job, but the state’s top law officer is being sued on several fronts over new gun regulations she imposed this summer.

WBZ political analyst Jon Keller sat down with Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey to discuss those regulations–and she said she has no second thoughts about setting them.

“I am really pleased to see that the notice we sent out, the notice saying we’re going to enforce the existing law, is working,” Healey said. “Sales of those assault weapons have virtually stopped in this state. That’s a good thing.”

She reminded viewers that the state’s ban on assault weapons has been in place since 1998.

“For years, the gun lobby would say, ‘We don’t need new regulations, we don’t need new laws, just enforce the laws that are on the books.’ That’s exactly what I did in enforcing the 1998 ban,” she said.

She said that enforcing the part of the ban that deals with so-called copycat weapons that functioned the same as the banned weapons was a matter of public health and would save lives–though her critics called her move political grandstanding.

“In this country, the majority of Americans get this,” Healey said. “This is about common-sense reforms and steps, and that includes enforcing existing laws.”

Keller and Healey also discussed early voting, as well as the November election and beyond.

“She reminded viewers that the state’s ban on assault weapons has been in place since 1998.” So did this ban stop people from killing eachother in this state? Appears not…

Like most liberal knee-jerk imposed bans they do nothing to solve any problems. They just punish law abiding citizens who were not breaking the laws or committing these crimes to begin with..

New Yorks 1,000,000 new illegal gun owners..

One million plus new felons, all armed with scary, high capacity, media labeled assault weapons!

The deadline for New York residents to register their so called “Assault Weapons” and “High” (read standard) Capacity Magazines came and went.

An estimated million plus, formerly law abiding, gun owners have refused to comply with Cuomo and down state Democrat’s naive belief that the NY Safe Act, passed in a so called emergency session of the New York legislature, could force free people to register their hard earned property.

And who can blame these once lawful gun owners, with a president that picks and chooses which laws he will follow or enforce, as well as an Federal Attorney General that operates daily with a Contempt of Congress charge and gun running scandal, “Fast & Furious”, hanging over his head. Why should the average New York joe, bother to follow the law, especially when it is in direct conflict with the Constitution of the United States, the one true law of the land.

I agree. All these laws do is give some lefties a warm and fuzzy feeling, it does nothing to fix the real problem they claim they want to solve. The problem they want to solve is how do we stop young men of color from killing each other…. They have no idea how to even state this so they try to blame gun owners.

Shewants to enforce existing laws? then She should order every country and city and town district attorney and every judge in the state that Bartley Fox is mandatory not plea bargainable. Go after the criminals who illegally possess firearms and ammo and stick them in jail for the required full one year penalty – watch the prisons fill up now with presumed violent offenders since there must be a violent reason why they carry and possess firearms without gettingthe required license. “and that includes enforcing existing laws.” – Maureen you either enforce all the commonsense laws or you are just grandstanding.

AG Healey is NOT “enforcing the law;” she is fabricating a new interpretation of settled law, from whole cloth.

The law she purports to now enforce properly is the original Federal law, enacted in 1994; enacted verbatim by the MA legislature in 1998; and re-enacted verbatim again in 2004.

Not once in the 22 years since the Federal law was enacted has ANY Attorney General, including her three predecessors, inverted the express language and manifest intent of that law as Healey now does.

This has nothing to do with “public safety.” As her staging of her decree, with no notice, still less hearings, makes ample evident, this is posturing for political ambitions.

Yes but it sends a tingle up the leg of all her lefty friends and supporters.
