Teens Injured In Roxbury Crash Involving Stolen Land Rover

BOSTON (CBS) - The owner of a Land Rover allegedly stolen by a group of young teens said she saw them take the SUV in Jamaica Plain. She described the driver as looking about 14 years old.

She stayed with officers as she says they chased the SUV from J.P. Other witnesses also described it as a car chase, but Boston Police stopped short of calling it that.

Witnesses said the Land Rover was speeding when it turned from MLK Boulevard onto Warren Street. It flipped hitting a van that hit another car.

Witnesses described one of the teens jumping out of the SUV. They said that same teen was handcuffed at the scene.

"I saw the police came out and cuffed up a guy, a small looking guy," said Brenton Forbes, who was driving the van.

Cell phone video shows first responders lifting the Land Rover after at least one of the teens was trapped inside.

As investigators worked through the scene, several backpacks were stacked up in the street.

John Mohammed, who has lived in the area his life, wonders why before 2:00 P.M. the teens were not in class.

"They definitely they should have been in school at that time, back in my time they had truant officers," said Mohammed.

Many of the witnesses shook their heads at the alleged actions of a group of kids.

"It's sad and it's tough. What can you say?" said one witness.

Boston Police were releasing few official details on Wednesday. The office of public affairs said Wednesday night - five people were taken to the hospital, three of them teens.

One had life-threatening injuries, another had non-life-threatening injuries, and a third was treated and released. Police were guarding one of the teens in the hospital.
