BOSTON (CBS) – The Red Sox are turning to their top prospect for help at third base.

Boston announced on Wednesday night that Yoan Moncada, who recently shifted from second base to third base, will be promoted to the majors in time for Friday night’s game in Oakland.

Moncada played 105 games in Salem and Portland so far this year, combining for 23 home runs, 99 RBI and 36 stolen bases to go along with a .289 batting average.

Signed out of Cuba in 2015, Moncada is widely considered the top prospect currently in all of minor league baseball.

The team needed third base help with recent struggles of Aaron Hill, Travis Shaw, and Brock Holt at the position.

Rosters expand at midnight, giving teams the flexibility to carry 40 players instead

  1. may want to check those stats, little off…looks like some of those are his past 2 years combined (HR/RBI), but the steals are just this year in Portland only…little all over the place
