Man Says He Snapped Photo Of 'Wessie,' 10-Foot Snake In Maine Park
WESTBROOK, Maine (CBS) -- A public works employee says he snapped a photo of Wessie, the 10-foot snake that's been hanging around Riverbank Park since June.
Earl White, Jr. told WBZ-TV he pulled up to the Westbrook park in his truck around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning to start his job picking up litter, when he startled the snake.
He said he heard a rustling in the bushes, and then saw the snake go into the water. He took the above photo as the creature crossed the Presumpscot River.
Back in June, Westbrook Police posted on their Facebook page about the recent sightings of the snake, and said they saw it eating a large animal. They said the snake was about ten feet long; White said it was possibly larger.
On Saturday, a 10-foot snake skin was found near a boat launch in Riverbank Park.
Police have said the snake is obviously not indigenous to Maine, and said they assume it was released.
White also said he met with photographers from National Geographic, who believe they found a hole where the snake lives, and plan to kayak to it and photograph it with infrared cameras.
