Suspect Arrested In Connection With South End Sexual Assault
BOSTON (CBS) – Police have arrested a man they say sexually assaulted a woman in the South End of Boston early Monday morning.
Eduardo Rodriguez, 31, was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon. Police say Rodriguez spent "significant time" in prison for a similar offense and was released in December.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, Rodriguez was sentenced to 8 to 10 years in state prison followed by 5 years of probation following his 2008 conviction for an earlier sex assault.
"He had on a GPS bracelet and he cut that bracelet off and that is why we couldn't locate him as quickly as we wanted," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans.
Evans says officers searched about 15 homes before they found Rodriguez.
The woman was walking near Greenwich Park and Claremont Street around 1 a.m. Monday when Boston Police say Rodriguez approached her on a blue BMX-style bicycle.
Rodriguez reportedly told the woman he had a knife and forced her to walk toward Carter Playground, where he sexually assaulted her.
Following the assault, police say Rodriguez ran toward Davenport Street.
Police say the victim positively identified Rodriguez as her attacker. He faces multiple charges including armed robbery and assault.
"We just want to thank her very much for having the courage to step forward and work with us to get this dangerous felon off the street," Evans said.
Rodriguez will be arraigned Wednesday in Roxbury Municipal Court.
