BOSTON (CBS) – Chris Wehner of Rockland is considered by some women to be nice-looking and very charming. Until they get to know him better.

“What bothered me the most is that he was on the street, a ticking time bomb,” says Sara Pateras, “and meeting other girls and families, and hurting them financially and emotionally.”

For the past two years, police in several towns say Wehner preyed on women. He often met them on the singles dating website called “Plenty Of Fish.”

Pateras says she fell for the 27-year-old last year until he allegedly stole $4,000 from her. Then Pateras started digging and found a trail of broken hearts, and emptied checkbooks like Michaela Tower.

“He takes all of your self-esteem away, and made you really embarrassed,” said Tower, who claims Wehner stole $28,000 from her. “It was little bits at a time saying he needed to pay this cancer bill or this doctor bill, and he didn’t have cancer.”

Police finally caught up with Wehner. He’s now at South Bay Correctional Facility charged with larceny.

In Tower’s case, there was another disturbing wrinkle. Wehner attached himself to her two-year-old daughter. “I was devastated for her but kind of frightened because if he could lie about this much, what was he lying about when he was home alone with my daughter,” Tower said.
