Newton Rower Gevvie Stone Takes Home Silver Medal

RIO DE JANEIRO (CBS) – Newton native Gevvie Stone will be returning home from Brazil with quite the souvenir.

The Olympic rower earned a silver medal Saturday in Rio de Janeiro during the women's single sculls final.

Stone finished the course in a time of 7:22.92, coming in behind gold medalist Kimberley Brennan of Australia.

Brennan took home the gold in a time of 7:21.54.

Stone previously told WBZ-TV that this will be her final Olympics as she plans to focus on her residency after her recent graduation from Tufts Medical School.

This year's competition was her second time rowing in the Olympics. Stone's mother, Lisa, was an Olympian during the 1976 Montreal games.
