Keller @ Large: DNC Recap With Liam Martin

BOSTON (CBS) -- Last week, the Republicans held their convention in Cleveland. This week, it was the Democrats' turn.

WBZ political analyst Jon Keller sat down with WBZ-TV's Liam Martin, who was fresh off the highway from covering the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia, to talk about the highlights of the Democrats' big week.

Keller asked Martin about the rift in the party between supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.

"It was disruptive Monday for sure," Martin said. "That was shortly after the WikiLeaks stuff came out, the DNC kind of supporting Hillary Clinton when they were supposed to be neutral."

He said there was a lot of anger both inside and outside the arena.

"In fact, in terms of the total number of people protesting outside of the arena and in downtown Philadelphia, there were actually more protesters than there were in Cleveland," he said.

But Martin said he believed the party began to unify by the end of the week.

"You had a couple of speeches that helped unite people," Martin said. "Michelle Obama's speech Monday night kind of helped."

Martin said some of the highlights of the convention included a speech by Khizr Khan, the father of a Muslim American soldier killed in Iraq.

"He got onto the stage with his wife and gave this very emotional speech about the legacy of his son," Martin said. "The most powerful moment was when he said, 'Donald Trump, have you read the constitution?' And he actually pulled the constitution out, he put it toward the camera, and he said, 'It says right in here, freedom of religion, equal protection under the law.'"

Keller and Martin also talked about protesters inside and outside the arena, and the contingent of Bernie supporters who still don't support Clinton.
