Cleanup, Investigation Underway One Day After Small Plane Crash-Lands In Hyannis
HYANNIS (CBS) -- One day after a scary crash at Barnstable Municipal Airport, things are somewhat back to normal.
A cleanup effort and investigation were underway Monday morning, and the cause of the crash was still unknown.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday, a single-engine plane was approaching Runway 33 when something went wrong.
"At some point and time, it looks like the aircraft lost control," Assistant Airport Manager Katie Servis said Sunday night. "It looks like one of the wheels dipped into the grass and lost a little bit of directional control."
It sent the small plane across the taxiway and into the rental car parking lot--where nine vehicles were damaged.
On board were two adult women and two young girls. All four were taken to Cape Cod Hospital and released with only minor injuries.
The father of one 10-year-old who was on board told WBZ his daughter is okay.
Sources told WBZ that the pilot, Basia Machano, is a local doctor. Officials said it's unclear exactly what happened in the air, but there was no distress call from Machano.
There were concerns after the crash about the 60 gallons of fuel that were on the plane. Servis said Sunday night that the plane was believed to have lost 20 to 30 gallons, though the spill was no longer an issue Monday.
FAA investigators were expected at the scene of the crash Monday afternoon.
