Walsh: Mass. Delegates Headed To DNC Are 'One Massachusetts'
BOSTON (CBS) -- At South Station Sunday morning, Mayor Marty Walsh, Senate President Stan Rosenberg, City Councilor Ayanna Pressley, and other Massachusetts Democratic delegates boarded a train bound for the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.
"Even though we don't agree on all the issues, we are one Boston, we are one Massachusetts, and we are going to Philly to make sure that we become one nation and make sure that Hillary Clinton gets elected the next president of the United States of America," Mayor Walsh said at a press conference held before the delegates left.
A small brass band played patriotic music as the delegates boarded the train.
"We saw last week a circus and mayhem that the Republican convention had," Walsh said. "We're gonna show the nation what the Democratic party looks like, with unity, respect, and how we progress forward."
Rosenberg also spoke, saying the Massachusetts delegates would help show the nation what a unified party can do for the "uplifting of America."
City Councilor Ayanna Pressley said this train was the right one to be on, "Both literally and figuratively."
Mayor Walsh live-streamed the event on Facebook.
The Democratic National Convention will take place Monday through Thursday. Several Massachusetts speakers have star turns in the convention's schedule.
Walsh and Sen. Elizabeth Warren are slated to speak at the convention.
