Gronk Relieved That 'DeflateGate Is Over Now'
BOSTON (CBS) -- Training camp is still a few days away, but Rob Gronkowski already has his juke moves down pat.
Gronkowski stiff-armed any questions about Tom Brady's decision to drop his DeflateGate battle against the NFL at an event on Friday, deflecting those inquiries to head coach Bill Belichick.
But Gronk did say it's a relief that the saga is now essentially over.
"DeflateGate is over now, so that's a relief that we don't have to hear about it anymore," Gronk said Friday after teaching a group of people how to dance and properly celebrate a touchdown. "It is what it is and I'm just super excited to get back to football and get back on the field. Whoever is out there is out there, and I can't wait to get back out there with my teammates and play some ball."
With Brady dropping his fight, the quarterback will have to serve the four-game suspension that was handed down by commissioner Roger Goodell. That means Jimmy Garoppolo will be under center for the first quarter of the season, and building chemistry with the third-year passer will be an important part of training camp this summer.
But Gronk is confident in the chemistry he's already built with Garoppolo over the last two seasons.
"It's not like you practice with just the first team all the time. You practice with everyone," he said. "You want to groove with everyone because you don't know what's going to happen with anyone."
Gronkowski said he's healthy and dropped another "super excited" when asked about training camp, which gets underway next Wednesday at Gillette Stadium.
And we hate to break it to Gronk, but the DeflateGate questions aren't going away anytime soon. But at least he's in mid-season form when it comes to deflecting those questions.
