Red Sox Call Up Infielder Mike Miller, Send William Cuevas To Pawtucket

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox have made a move ahead of their three-game series in Tampa, calling up infielder Mike Miller for his first major league stint on Monday.

The team sent relief pitcher William Cuevas to Triple-A Pawtucket as the corresponding roster move.

The 26-year-old Miller was drafted by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2012 draft. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound Miller has played at second base, third base and shortstop this season. He's hitting .256 with a .324 on-base percentage in Triple-A this season, and he owns a career minor league batting average of .267.

The move would seemingly be in response to Xander Bogaerts and John Farrell both saying after Sunday's game that the All-Star shortstop needs a break.

"I know I'm tired," Bogaerts said, per the Boston Herald. "I can feel I'm tired. I don't have no legs. I'm throwing the ball over there with no legs. I'm hitting with nothing right now. Most of my hits have been infield hits and bloopers, stuff like that. It's not solid contact lately."

Following the three-game set in Tampa, the Red Sox will have Thursday off before hosting the Angels over the weekend.

Cuevas pitched twice over the weekend for the Red Sox, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out three batters over 2.2 innings.
