The blaze ripped through the truss roof of the cider block building and there was a partial collapse, investigators say.

Firefighters are battling the fire from outside of the building. Some nearby homes had to be evacuated while firefighters tried to control the spread of the blaze.

Various hazardous gas tanks were found on site, fire officials say.

"The building has some hazardous chemicals...fertilizers and things associated with landscaping inside," said Boston Fire Commissioner Joseph Finn. "So we went immediately into a defensive position so we didn't put any members in harm's way."

The firefighters suffered non-life-threatening injuries, with one taken to a local hospital while the other was treated on scene.

As of 9:30 p.m., firefighters were still on scene working to completely extinguish the blaze.

They are expected to be there all night, according to the Boston Fire Twitter account.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
