Awards To Be Given Out At Annual Hampton Beach Sand Sculpture Competition
HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) — The annual sand sculpting competition at New Hampshire's Hampton Beach is wrapping up with judging, an awards ceremony and fireworks.
The 16th annual Master Sand Sculpting competition officially began Thursday, when world-class competitors began sculpting their 10-ton mounds of sand into masterpieces.
The sculptures will remain on display through July 4th, and will be lit for night viewing.
This year's theme is "Under the Sea."
The event has attracted sculptors from as far away as India and the Netherlands. Sculptors are competing for $15,000 in prize money as well as for the "People's Choice Award."
Among this year's cast of sculptors are five-time world champion, Guy-Olivier Deveau from Quebec, Canada; Carl Jara from Lyndhurst, Ohio; and five-time world champion and last year's winner, Karen Fralich, of Toronto, Canada.
