Kitten Recovering After Being Thrown From Car Onto Highway

BOSTON (CBS) - A five-week-old kitten is now on the mend after he survived being thrown out of a moving car on a highway.

According to the Center for Animal Rescue and Education or CARE, the kitten and four others were tossed out in a trash bag along the side of Route 24 North in Bridgewater between exits 15 and 16.

"Freeway" as he's now known, was the lone survivor after a good Samaritan picked up the bag and brought it to an emergency veterinarian center.

Due to a leg injury, Freeway was nearly put down until he was scooped up by veterinary technician, Sharron Crooks, and brought to CARE, a no kill shelter.

Now, Freeway is in the care of Ruth Marshman, CARE's president.

"It's just, it's in our hearts. And, you know, we seem to take the ones that someone else won't take," Marshman said.

She says he is currently recovering from a potential nerve injury to his leg. Eventually, he will be up for adoption.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident on the highway is asked to call CARE at 508-994-0220 or the police.
